Religiousness Organization

Welcome to Religiousness.org! Religiousness.org is a highly categorized in-depth informational resource for all terms related to Religiousness and Religious Studies. About us.

Religiosity, in its broadest sense, is a comprehensive sociological term used to refer to the numerous aspects of religious activity, dedication, and belief (religious doctrine). Another term that would work equally well, though is less often used, is religiousness. In its narrowest sense, religiosity deals more with how religious a person is, and less with how a person is religious (in practicing certain rituals, retelling certain myths, revering certain symbols, or accepting certain doctrines about deities and afterlife).

A. One observation is that the very statement "Only science can explain how the world was created" in its wording, already contains the presumption that the world (or cosmos) is a "created" object, but the figure of speech is a common one, as serves to show that religious thinking pervades the language... it make a greater challenge in trying to understand objectively just how everything came into being! Some say that religion has better success in attempting to address the "why" questions rather than those which ask "how", but the real point is that science works as a methodology of gathering facts and seeking to explain those facts in a careful, tentative way, so that its findings will be reliable, e.g [cont.]

How funny is it that "Religion and Spirituality" is a subcategory of "Society and Culture"?
Q. And what does this say about what Yahoo! Answers thinks of religion? It's interesting to say all the different interpretations of my admittedly very vague question. Please note that most (arguably all) the other categories - e.g. "Science & Mathematics", "Beauty & Style", "Consumer Electronics" - are also cultural constructs. Religion is relegated to a "second tier" concern - less important than "Pets", "Local Businesses" and "Yahoo Products".

Cambridge University Press Sacred And Secular Religion And Politics Worldwide Cambridge Studies In Social Theory Religion And Politics : Seminal nineteenth-century thinkers predicted that religion would gradually fade in importance with the emergence of industrial society. The belief that religion was dying became the conventional wisdom in the social sciences during most of the twentieth century. The traditional secularization thesis needs updating, however, religion has not disappeared and is unlikely to do so. Nevertheless, the concept of secularization captures an important part of what is going on. This book develops a theory of existential security. It demonstrates that the publics of virtually all advanced industrial societies have… [cont.]
